Frequently asked questions
Is electric underfloor heating more expensive to use?
Energy-wise, electric heating is more expensive, but due to the installation and control methods, electric underfloor heating can be cheaper than conventional heating. This advantage applies especially to spaces of about 10-15 m2 that are not used continuously. Spaces where an underfloor insulation can be applied with electric underfloor heating are also often more economical to heat with electric underfloor heating than with a conventional system without insulation.
I read on the internet that electric heating is sometimes up to three times as expensive; what’s the deal?
Practice shows that when a complete house is heated electrically, energy costs drop by approximately 10% to 20% percent; in contrast, gas consumption is significantly lower. For this reason, the difference in the end result will not be significant. Additionally, the system from Alma Techniek is on average 15 to 25% percent cheaper in terms of consumption compared to a standard electric underfloor heating system. If the installation is not properly carried out, the power is not calculated correctly, poor or no insulation is used, and the control/thermostats are not set correctly, the consumption can still be higher. If you suspect that your electric underfloor heating is consuming too much power, please contact us: Alma Techniek can provide you with good advice in this matter.
Can I better install the electric heating on the sand-cement floor or in it?
Generally speaking, when the electric underfloor heating is installed on the sand-cement floor, the heating can be very fast. This significantly reduces energy costs. In large spaces, it is sometimes better to install a lower power in the sand-cement floor. Which option is preferred depends on several factors. Alma Techniek can provide excellent advice in this regard.
I’m getting a heat pump; what else do I need to do with electric underfloor heating?
Combining a heat pump and electric underfloor heating increases comfort. A heat pump is reasonably economical in consumption, but also very slow. By installing electric underfloor heating in a number of rooms, the warm-up speed, and therefore the comfort, can be significantly improved. For example, you can heat the entire house 2 degrees lower, without this compromising comfort, because the rooms that are used are heated with electric underfloor heating if necessary.
My underfloor heating isn't working anymore. Should the entire floor be replaced now?
No, that’s certainly not necessary. Alma Techniek has its own technical department and the knowledge and equipment to solve this for you. If there is a defect in the electric underfloor heating, we can accurately locate and repair it for you, down to the square inch.
I would like to switch to CO2-neutral heating. Is that possible with electric underfloor heating?
Yes, we say this not in vain; sustainable electric heating. If electricity comes from solar panels and wind energy, the entire house can be heated CO2-neutrally. This will, however, result in higher energy costs, but gas consumption will be significantly reduced. Additionally, you can invest in solar panels yourself.
City heating is very expensive and uncomfortable; is electric heating an option?
That's certainly true. Electric heating is always more comfortable than city heating, and combined with solar panels, it's certainly cheaper. Contact us for comprehensive, no-obligation advice!
Can electric underfloor heating be used on any type of finishing floor?
This is very possible, but the finishing of the electric underfloor heating is nevertheless important. Alma Techniek can of course provide you with good advice on this, so feel free to contact us.
